MANAGING DIRECTOR | INTERNATIONAL ADVISORY, ASIA
Hong Kong, Tokyo, Singapore, Manila, Bangkok or Kuala Lumpur

Our client is an international advisory firm working with leading corporations, investors and institutions to help them navigate complex political, economic and commercial environments.

The firm provides senior decision-makers with informed perspectives on international markets, government policy, geopolitical developments and the implications of these factors for business and investment decisions.

We are seeking a senior professional with substantial experience operating at the intersection of government, international development, investment and business across Asia.

This opportunity will particularly appeal to individuals who have held senior leadership or country-level appointments within multilateral development banks, international financial institutions, development finance institutions or other internationally focused organisations.

Of particular interest are individuals who have worked closely with governments, international investors and major corporations on economic development, infrastructure, investment, market access and public-private sector engagement.

The successful individual will bring a sophisticated understanding of how governments, institutions and businesses operate across Asia, together with the credibility, relationships and international perspective to advise senior corporate and investment clients.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Advise senior corporate and investment clients on the political, economic, regulatory and institutional environments shaping business decisions across Asia.
  • Provide informed perspectives on government priorities, economic development, investment environments and the relationship between public policy and commercial activity.
  • Draw upon established relationships with senior government officials, international institutions, investors and corporate leaders to develop a deeper understanding of regional markets.
  • Help clients navigate complex political and institutional environments, particularly in emerging and developing Asia economies.
  • Identify opportunities and challenges arising from government policy, economic reforms, infrastructure development and international investment.
  • Contribute to advisory assignments involving market entry, investment decisions, geopolitical developments, stakeholder environments and cross-border commercial matters.
  • Engage directly with senior executives, investors and boards, providing independent perspectives on complex international business issues.
  • Work alongside specialist research and advisory colleagues to translate regional knowledge, institutional understanding and market intelligence into commercially relevant advice.
  • Develop trusted relationships with existing and prospective clients, identifying areas where the firm's expertise and international network can provide value.
  • Help strengthen the firm's presence, relationships and advisory capabilities across Asia.

PROFILE

We are interested in senior professionals who have developed substantial regional expertise, institutional credibility and high-level relationships through careers in international development, government, investment or economic advisory.

Particularly relevant backgrounds include:
  • Multilateral development institutions, development finance institutions, and international investment organisations.
  • Senior country leadership or regional appointments within international financial institutions.
  • Economic diplomacy, international trade and investment promotion.
  • Senior government advisory roles involving economic development, infrastructure or foreign investment.
  • International organisations working at the intersection of public policy, economic development and private-sector investment.

Demonstrate:
  • Significant experience working across Asia, ideally including emerging and developing economies.
  • A sophisticated understanding of political, economic and institutional dynamics and their implications for international business and investment.
  • Established senior relationships across governments, international institutions, development finance organisations and the private sector.
  • Experience engaging with ministers, senior government officials, institutional leaders, corporate executives and international investors.
  • A strong understanding of how government priorities, regulatory environments and institutional relationships influence commercial decisions.
  • Experience advising on complex economic, investment or development-related matters involving multiple stakeholders.
  • The ability to interpret political and economic developments through a commercial lens and communicate their implications to senior decision-makers.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, sound judgment and the credibility to operate as a trusted adviser at the highest levels.
  • An interest in applying institutional knowledge and international experience within a commercially focused advisory environment.
  • The ability to develop and maintain senior relationships that support the firm's advisory activities and long-term growth.

THE OPPORTUNITY

This position offers an opportunity for an established international development, institutional or government adviser to apply their experience in a different commercial context.

Rather than focusing on development programmes, institutional mandates or public-sector policy objectives, the successful individual will help corporations and investors understand the political, economic and institutional factors influencing their activities across Asia.

The role combines senior-level advisory work, international engagement and relationship development, offering considerable scope to draw upon an established network and deep regional knowledge.

It would particularly suit a former Country Director, Regional Director or equivalent senior institutional leader seeking to apply their experience and relationships within an international private-sector advisory business.
